Celebrate Juneteenth in Chicago: Freedom, Reflection, and Community

Juneteenth is June 19. Juneteenth is a time to honor freedom and reflect on our history.

There are several events happening across Chicago in celebration of Juneteenth—from festivals to community gatherings and educational programs.

Check out the events, spread the word, and celebrate with purpose. Have a fun and safe Juneteenth!

Peace Runners 773

Join Peace Runners 773 for a Juneteenth Wellness 5k on Saturday, June 14 at 138 S. Hamlin Blvd. Check-in is at 8:00 AM and the walk begins at 9:30 AM.

Teamwork Englewood

Teamwork Englewood is hosting a two-part Juneteenth Celebration on Wednesday, June 18 starting from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM at its lot on 63rd and Halsted. The first part is a community resource fair with raffles and health and workforce resources. The second event is the Englewood Quality of Life Initiative Quarterly meeting with community planning and celebration. This event starts at 4:00 PM and ends at 7:00 PM at the Englewood Break Room plaza at 63rd and Justine.

My Block, My Hood, My City

Join My Block, My Hood, My City for a special Juneteenth Day of Service and Celebration on Thursday, June 19 at Hamilton Park. Volunteers will help beat the summer heat by delivering box fans and bottled water to seniors who’ve signed up in advance. Afterwards, stick around for a community celebration with food, music and activities for the whole family.

The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center is hosting a Juneteenth Celebration and Annual Community BBQ on Thursday, June 19 from 8:00 AM - 8:30 PM at 740 E 56th Place.

DuSable is seeking education, entertainment, and food vendors.

Join Social Change for the Imagine Justice Commemorative 2.5 Mile Walk on Thursday, June 19 at 31st Street Beach, Chicago. Check-in is at 7:30 AM and the walk begins at 9:00 AM.

Join United Way of Metro Chicago on Thursday, June 26 for an exclusive conversation with renowned writer, scholar, and Marvel Comics author Eve L. Ewing in honor of Juneteenth. Eve will talk about the connections between education, culture, and superheroes.
